Le informazioni tipo "biglietto da visita" disponibili nei dati di riferimento degli Identificativi della persona giuridica (LEI), ad esempio la denominazione ufficiale di una persona giuridica e la sua sede legale, sono definite dati di"primo livello". Questi dati rispondono alla domanda ‘Chi è chi’.
Il formato LEI Common Data File (CDF) definisce le modalità con cui le organizzazioni che emettono codici LEI devono comunicare i loro LEI e dati di riferimento di primo livello.
A novembre 2016, la GLEIF ha pubblicato il formato LEI-CDF iniziale versione 1.0. A maggio 2017, la GLEIF ha pubblicato il formato LEI-CDF versione 2.1 e a maggio 2021 il formato LEI-CDF versione 3.1. Rispetto al formato LEI-CDF versione 2.1, le modifiche introdotte nella versione 3.1 sono basate sulle politiche ROC, "Eventi relativi a una persona giuridica (noti precedentemente come "Azioni aziendali") e Storico dati nel sistema globale LEI", nonché il "Documento di guida sull'idoneità al LEI per gli enti governativi generali".
