In March 2018, the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) published the GLEIF Service Catalog. It details the services we provide to both the public and our partners in the Global Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) System. The service catalog is available as PDF for download and in an interactive format, which serves as a pathfinder to dedicated GLEIF website pages featuring detailed information on individual services (see ‘related links’ below).

GLEIF is tasked to manage the only open, non-proprietary entity identification system which is designed as a public good. By doing so, it ensures the operational integrity of the Global LEI System and enables people and businesses to make smarter, less costly and more reliable decisions about who to do business with. GLEIF meets these objectives by offering a broad range of services to the public, e.g. LEI data users, and the partners GLEIF cooperates with such as the LEI issuing organizations. LEI issuers – also referred to as Local Operating Units (LOUs) – supply registration, renewal and other services, and act as the primary interface for legal entities wishing to obtain an LEI.

Among other things, GLEIF is responsible for:

  • Evaluating the suitability of organizations seeking to operate as LEI issuers.
  • Providing expertise and reliability throughout the organization and management of the Global LEI System.
  • Ensuring access to the complete global LEI data pool, free of charge, to users.
  • Continuously optimizing the quality of the LEI data pool.
  • Making available comprehensive information on the LEI and the Global LEI System, as well as timely updates on related global developments and GLEIF activities.

Some GLEIF services are also described in the Service Level Agreement (Appendix 6 to the Master Agreement). The Master Agreement is the contractual framework governing the relationship between GLEIF and LEI issuing organizations.

GLEIF is committed to ensuring transparency on its performance with regard to the services it provides. We therefore, make available for download monthly service reports evaluating overall GLEIF performance. In addition, we publish daily indicators on the availability of GLEIF services (see ‘related links’ below).

The evaluation of GLEIF service performance also allows identifying opportunities to further improve the services and will guide the evolution of the service portfolio.
