The Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) published its Annual Report, including the audited financial statements for the financial year that ended 31 December 2023. It highlights the status of GLEIF’s operations, financial condition, and key developments in 2023.

With this report, GLEIF demonstrates the use of the verifiable Legal Entity Identifier (vLEI) to sign its 2023 Annual Report. To verify and protect the 2023 GLEIF Annual Report, GLEIF’s Chair, CEO, and auditors cryptographically signed the document using vLEIs to confirm and seal its contents, specific sections, or even facts within the report or data set, digitally authenticating the year’s strategic and financial data for life. Having multiple vLEI signatories increases credibility, making significant and sensitive documents tamper-proof. In partnership with XBRL International and Amana, GLEIF has published its 2023 Annual Report in human and machine-readable Inline XBRL and HTML format, with GLEIF’s LEI embedded into the financial information. It constitutes an official business report that automatically links the filing entity to its verified LEI reference data in the Global LEI Index.

GLEIF Annual Report 2021 GLEIF’s 2021 Annual Report was linked to a pioneering proof-of-concept (PoC) demonstration: the first ever use of a verifiable LEI (vLEI). The demo was undertaken while the vLEI technical infrastructure was in development and prior to the issuer qualification program being finalized. As the demo pre-dated the vLEI root of trust inception event, the vLEIs were not chained to the official root of trust. As such, the vLEI credentials issued were revoked once the demo was completed. GLEIF Annual Report 2020 GLEIF showcased that including an LEI within the electronic signatures of signing officers, will maximize trust in document authenticity and integrity.
